P4/5

Welcome to the P4/5 news page. There are 17 energetic and enthusiastic children in our class under the direction of teacher Mrs Briege Baxter and classroom assistant Miss Mary Kate McQuaid.

This term our W.A.U topic is Home Sweet Home. The children will research different types of homes both here and in other countries. They will find out about the various roles of people involved in building a house. They will have the chance to look at plans etc.

In Literacy we will be planning and writing stories. We will be writing to persuade and creating poems. We will continue to alternate the spellings with linguistic phonics and onset & rime and high frequency words. In grammar we will be looking at nouns, verbs, adjectives, plurals and compound words. The children will continue to read and quiz on Accelerated Reader.

In Numeracy we will be covering place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplying, measuring using m/cms, 2D shapes and time. The children will continue to have mental maths homework daily. They should spend ten minutes per night practising for the Friday quiz. The children are encouraged to go on Mathletics to improve their overall mathematical ability.

In PDMU the children will explore homelessness. They will look at human rights and discuss wants vs needs. They will also explore the dangers associated with building sites.

In ICT we will be using the ipads to research our topic and will be creating a photo story.

Music will continue to be every Thursday. It is important that the children come organised for this. On Monday afternoons the class enjoy a dance lesson with the very talented Chris Cross. Every Tuesday the children have an Irish lesson with Mrs Mc Mahon.  PE will be on Wednesday afternoons. Children need their PE kit for these sessions.
